“I have my my Asus ROG hooked up to a monitor and it shuts everything off because of over heating issues when I play a game. Will this solve my problem if I want to play for a long period of time?”

It has kept my laptop cool. I use it everyday to play the different Microsoft Daily Challenges and the Microsoft Solitaire Events. I don't see why it wouldn't work for you too.
