“just got this machine a few days ago. For some reason it takes a very long time to download files from the internet. .Exe files, mp3s, zips, ...anything...over 1/2 hour. What's going on? My 11 inch 4 year old Asus net book downloads such files instantly.”

It depends on your internet speed. The internal card built in is a dual band wireless AC card so it should not be an issue.
