I can't imagine why you couldn't power it off and on as needed. Left on 24/7 it will go into a sleep/low power mode after a few minutes of idle and when it is called upon to print, will sometimes prime itself (using a little ink in the process) before printing. Turning it off and on again will guarantee that it needs to prime itself before printing so, I suppose, it may use a little more ink if turned on and off as opposed to leaving it on in sleep mode...probably not enough difference to worry about.
