My timer counts about 12 seconds at 200dpi black and white from click of button to the moment you can open the lid. 
Auto, color, or grayscale will take longer. If you choose higher dpi like 600 with auto color detection the scanner will take more than 60 seconds.

For my use as a business owner, the 12 seconds per scan is exactly the time I need to file the last receipt, get the next receipt unfolded, and read the date on it.

The autofeed scan takes 16 seconds for one sheet.
