Hello gottaprintnow. The ET-3850 has a low ink alert system, so you want to try and refill the ink tanks once the ink is below the lower line. This will help maintain the accuracy of the system to help read levels correctly. You want to avoid waiting until the tank is empty as continued usage could damage the product.
