My short answer is I don't know but as long as the viscosity (property of flow and thickness) is the same it should work for awhile. As this printer is designed to work with certain inks, a change to something else may result in damage to the print head or other components. At any rate, $50 for at least 2500 pages with no disposable cartridges is way more eco-friendly compared to $70 for disposable cartridges that give you maybe 200 pages no matter what kind of ink is in it. I've been waiting for this printer for years.
