What I learned after calling Epson support (and frankly, the support tech figured it out with me as it hadn't come up before I guess) is that you need to power down any other scanners connected to your system before powering up the FF-640. It seems that if multiple scanners (well, Epson scanners at least) are powered up simultaneously that it confuses the drivers.

The site will automatically detect which version of Mac you have & will let you know when to connect the scanner to your Mac. The scanner comes with all the cables you will need. The printer should work the same for printing. The only thing you might have to do is choosing which scanner, since both machines are by Epson.
