“Is the built-in speaker loud enough to use on it's own with the internal fan running at full speed? Also, will I notice a difference between 1000 lumens (EF12) and 2700 lumens (2250)?”

You will be able to hear it with no problems, but the sound quality is sub optimal at best. Yes the difference is very noticeable, especially if you have any source of light in the room you are using it in.
