Typically the absorbent pads can be replaced. I used to provide tech support for printers. From my experience, the manufacturers tell you that the user doesn't need to worry about pads. High usage can prove otherwise. I don't know your usage situation, but I would hope that you shouldn't need to worry about the pads. They are a replaceable item and I offer that you should be able to simply call Epson tech support prior to the end of your warranty period.
