“The Epson 4820 used to scan both sides of document until the software update. Now, I read you have to upgrade to 4830 to have this feature. This is trash. Why would Epson do this? With so many other problems we have had with this printer.”

Hello TX. Automatic 2-sided printing is a feature that is physically included with the WF-4820. If the option is missing after a software update, we recommend visiting our official Epson Support page to re-install the printer driver/software.
