“I am trying to get away from HP who require you to purchase their ink at crazy prices. Does this printer require Epson ink, or can you buy off brand cartridges at a lower price?”

• You can use off brand, but I don't recommend it. If you do much photo printing, the quality of Epson ink makes it worth it.

• Hello 802Printer. The WF-7840 is designed to only work with genuine Epson T802, T802XL, and T802XXL Ink Cartridges. Third-party ink is not supported on the machine. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
