• Hello Deb. The WF-7840 needs to be initialized with ink for first-time use. If you run out of ink and the printer has already been set up, you will still be able to use the scan features. Please note you will be able to scan from the product's control panel or your computer but won't be able to copy from the product's control panel. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
