I think it was because you could use refillable ink cartridges in it. They lost a lot of money because people didn't buy their ink for that printer and when they made the next printer up they discontinued the ability to use refillable ink cartridges. I purchased a 4,000 workforce series printer and it broke in less than a year I've had my 2750 since 2012 and I'm still currently using it with refillable ink cartridges and I've never had a problem it's just it's held together with twine and paper clips and whatever I can hold it together with but it still works.
