“What is the range of the Base unit? I am planning on a number of cameras around the front and back of my house so will need a few hundred feet. If it is not that far can you have 2 base units in the same house to extend the range?”

Placement of 2 Basr Stations definitely extends the range of the outdoor cameras. And the number of cameras

And you should be able to add wifi extenders if you need to reach an area that regular router doesn't reach. But that's up to your router's ability to support it. (Or Get good mesh WIFI system.)
