You leave the switch on that controls the light fixture. Then you can control it via the app. You can turn on the lights, adjust brightness, schedule times for lights to be on, or you can just leave it on motion detection.

By default the lights are off unless something triggers them, however I have set my lights to be on after dusk at a dimmed state until there is a trigger and then they brighten up. So the answer is yes to both of your questions.

Lights do come on when someone triggers the sensor. You also have the option to set how long the lights stay on in this feature.

You can set up a schedule to have the lights stay on for a period of time.

Yes by default they only come on when motion is detected. You can change them to be always on at a lower brightness in settings.

You can set the lights on the app and keep it always on when other control methods are diabled. If you enable the option "Motion triggered lights" on the app, the lights would turn on when motion is detected at night; the light would turn off when the motion ends.
