Live stream uses your home wireless to allow APP to view on your phone-so,no-it does not use memory to watch live.It uses data. You want to set it up so that you have memory in the camera(say 64GB)to record-full time HD that is many hours-IF you need to watch/record full time(not normal) .You set it up to record with motion and can notify you over the phone when it is recording-I'ts a little finicky to set up but once you do it only records when there is movement(on the memory)then, once you view it or copy ,then delete it,the memory is back to full...

You do not need to insert an SD card or signup for the cloud service to view the live videos from your camera. Maximum SD card supported is 256GB
