“I live on a boat in a marina & use the marina's wifi for internet. I don't have a router. Will the Fire TV Recast DVR communicate with the firestick over the marina's wifi? Will the communicate over my cell phone's hotspot? Or do I need to buy a router?”

you will need a router,signal is sent from box to tv(if smart tv) or firestick,which you need internet
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say it should work since you’re just putting a Wi-fi password in and connecting to the internet / of course your Wifi speed could slow with a lot of public traffic.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Fire TV Recast and firestick have to be on the same network to be able to used together. So if you connect both of them to the marina wifi then it should work. If you only have 1 connected to WiFi then it will not work. What I found is that I can leave my Fire TV recast connected to the internet and stream live TV or my recordings to my phone or tablet anywhere I have internet from LTE or other WiFi, using the Fire App. Hope this helps
