Hello friends. The firetv recast will not currently work with roku streaming players or roku tv's due to the difference between the roku interface and the firetv interface. The firetv players and firetv tv's interface incorporates a live tv area into it which allows channels picked up over an antenna that the user attached to the coaxial antenna port on the back of the recast to be loaded into the live tv area of the firetv interface. This makes the antenna channles show up in several different areas including On Now on the home tab, FireTv Recast area on the live tab and On Now on the DVR tab The firetv recast works well with firetv devices however it requires a firetv mobile device for its setup by using the firetv mobile app to link it with the other firetv devices so you may need a tablet or smart phone with the firetv app on it for initial setup. It comes with a 14 day/24 hour by the half hour program guide. It allows you to set the dvr to record individual episodes of shows as well as all episodes of a show up to its memory limitations which can be expanded with some external harddrives that can be purchased to attach to it but check with Amazon's site for compatibility. The DVR works well and can be tweaked to record giving chosen shows priority over others that may be at the same time and you can adjust settings for additional recording time in case a sports event goes longer than expected such as a muliple overtime football game. It works very well, however the only issue I have with it is that I hope Amazon will address with a system update and fix is that when your antenna siganal becomes weak as mine does on the VHF channels which are more easily negatively affected by multi-path and other interferences. The recast will show a message near the center of the lower portion of the tv screen notifying you that your antenna signal has become weak and that you can try repositioning you antenna for a stronger signal. My antenna is alreaday teaked to its best postition for its best signal strength. Even though the message appears breifly for a couple of seconds to read it my picture usually remains watchable without pixelation so I will hope that Amazon will come out with an update fix allowing us to turn off that weak signal warning message so we don't have to see it everytime our antenna experiences multi-path or something else causing the signal to weaken momentarily. I would hope that sometime the roku's could work with the recast but since roku and amazon are competitors I won't get my hopes up to high but if they don't cooperate, maybe competition will lead roku to come up with a similar device to the recast to work directly with their devices. At current I have to switch tv inputs to go back and forth between my roku interface and my firetv interface. I have a couple of roku's and a couple of firetv 4k sticks. I keep one of each on the hdmi ports of my tv's for the best of both worlds (firetv and roku). Roku has more apps and memory on my devices to accommodate more active and current apps and without all the Amazon advertising in your face to clutter things up on the interface but Amazon has some great features in its interface that Roku does not have yet. Amazon has areas as I mentioned above for live tv from your antenna when you link it with your firetv mobile app and the recast. The On Now area on the home tab even incorporates the Pluto live tv channels to you antenna live tv channels into the same area and program guide. Philo channels will also show up here if you are paying for the Philo streaming service subscription. This creates somewhat of a cable/satellite effect by having so many live tv channels showing up in one area with a program guide to see what is coming on them. The is a terriffic feature that Roku does not yet have. This is why I have both Roku's for more app variety and availability without all the Amazon advertising adds and I also have the firetv sticks for the live tv features that include the antenna channels that are not yet offered by Roku. There are other DVR's out there that will bring in antenna channels for those of you that have Roku's but with the recast, the antenna channels get incorporated right in the firetv interface with other live channels such as Pluto and Philo where as with Roku you would need to go into the DVR's separate app for the antenna channels. The only way I know of to incorpoarte other live tv channels with the anteanna channels in one area on the Roku is with one of the versions of the Airtv player that will incorporate your antenna channels into one guide with slingtv channels if you are a paid slingtv subscriber. I hope this answers a lot of questions for you. Good luck it is a matter of choices, more apps and without all the excess advertising when choosing Roku but the nice livetv antenna channel incorporation with firetv if you have all the necessary equipment for it such as the recast and a mobile device with fire tv app on it to link them together and a workable antenna with decent signal.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. An Amazon Fire TV device or the Fire TV app for iOS/Android are required to watch the live TV or recordings on the Recast device. There is no app for Roku, Apple TV etc. Live TV and recorded shows are embedded in the tiles and menu for the Fire TV if a Recast is on the same network
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sorry, no, you can't play it over a Roku. You need to connect to it with a Fire TV device or app.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No Recast only works with the fire Ecosystem. Try Tablo. Or HD homerun As they work Withbmultiple different streaming formmats like Roku
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe the recast only works with Amazon stuff
