• When you turn your arm or lift it the time shows up. You can also tap it to see the time. So it doesn't always show it but it is easy to access. I think it would run your battery down quickly if it always showed it.

• The Alta is a bit inconsistent as to when it displays. Sometimes, rotating my wrist like I'm looking at a watch is enough to make the display activate. Other times, I have to tap it, repeatedly, to get it to "wake up." But, my FitBit One definitely required manual manipulation each time. This is somewhat easier.

• no, you have to tap it or move your wrist like you're telling time to "wake it up" but if it were on all the time you'd have to charge it more often.

• The screen turns off but by lifting your wrist it shows the time or by tapping it.

• If you are wearing it and raise your wrist as if you're looking at a watch, the time will display. It can also be tapped to display the time.
