Alta can get wet, but shouldn't be worn in the shower or while swimming. It's not designed for prolonged exposure to water or fluctuations in heat, like extreme hot or cold. Not waterproof.

What you can do, which is a great feature, is manually add in the amount of time you spent doing a specific activity such as swimming, and keep track of it that way. It will calculate calories burned and add it to your active minutes for the day.
