Yes, It will count while holding on to the rails of the treadmill but, will not give you a full accurate step count. The best thing I found that worked for me, was to put it in my pocket or take the bands off and slide it in the side of one of my shoes. For carry boxes and packages, I find it counts them and accurately too. I hope this helped you.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The counter works by sensing the motion of your arms. so, no, it won't work if you have your hands resting on the treadmill. I usually put the Charge 2 on my ankle if I want to record my steps on the tread mill. Note though, it simply counts steps, does not give you any credit for the elevation or the speed at which you walk.
