Band adjusts for size. I am an adult user and have a small wrist. My daughter is 6' and has a very small wrist. It fits both of our wrists easily and is adjustable. They have a size guide on outside package in store which may help you decide.

I think the small would only fit a small child's wrist properly. My wife is really petite and wears very small everything. Even for her we had to go with the normal size because the small size Fitbit HR was too small for her wrist. I think this is the first time we have ever had that issue with her.

The small is really child sized unless you always want it tight, which you shouldn't because Fitbit recommends having it loose enough that you can fit a finger underneath and move it up and down your wrist area.
