The Fitbit will record "steps" by moving your hands some. You can pick dominant and non-dominant hands in the initial setup. But FitBit states in their manual that they allowed this on purpose, because if you are moving, you should get credit for the exercise.

However, normal arm movement does not seem to add steps. Bottom line: you can cheat if you want to, but who are you cheating? In your case, I think stocking shelves would have a minimal impact on your actual step count.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In my experience it will pick up some arm movements, I have adjusted the sensitivity to dominant hand and it has been less sensitive to arm movements. I do go over my 10000 step goal everyday so I'm not so worried about it as much anymore.

However, I noticed that when on the treadmill, I can hold it up and look at it, or even hold the bar while I walk or run and it still counts all of the steps. I would guess that any difference from using your hands would be negligible.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It doesn't seem to pick up any movement at my desk (reaching back and forth) so I think you might be ok. Driving a few miles picks up only maybe 20-30 steps, so I've found it's pretty good at discerning actual steps from other activities.
