Yes it does. If you want something that doesn't go on your wrist, you may want to consider one of Fitbit's other tracking products. Try one of the ones I recommended.

It does need to be on your wrist as it tracks the swing of your arm. Fitbit makes a model that can be carried in your pocket though if you prefer that method.

The Fit bit flex doesn't have to be on your wrist to work, it even works carrying it in your pocket.

It is meant to be worn on your wrist for accurate tracking. I don't think it will give you accurate steps if it's in your packet.
