you can just sync it when you get home and don't need a smart phone at all. best thing is you don't even have to manually do it when you get home. if you leave the "dongle" that comes with it in your computer and have your computer on sometime it will automatically detect your fitbit and sync with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think you have to have your phone on you at all times with the surge. You would just have to sync them up when you get back to your phone. The watch holds the info until it connects back to your phone. As long as you sync the two together again before midnight.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You do not need a smart phone but you would need access to a computer and internet access to set up an account. The Surge connects via syncing by cable or by Bluetooth so keep that in mind. If you do have a smart phone it will not be an issue to have it on you at all times. I use my Surge at the gym and leave my phone in the locker.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do both. My employer checks it for the amount of steps per month and it affects how they pay my medical insurance....it is great!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is an app to download to your phone (I use an iphone). Very easy to do. You can set the app to synch automatically. Your progress will update whenever you open the app. I usually check the app periodically throughout the day to gauge my progress. I have a fitbit one not a surge so I'm not sure if there's a difference. My kids both have the flex and we are all on the same "friends" page on the app. Great products. Enjoy!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Syncing to computer via USB dongle works very well, or any other gadget that has bluetooth with apps on all common platforms (ios/android).
