Companies don’t refer to the capability as waterproof as that comes with a whole bunch of legal technicalities. The watch is water resistant to 50 feet - you can swim wearing it and it will track your laps.

It is water resistant to 50 feet so yes you can swim wearing it (it tracks laps), shower in it and not panic if you are caught in a thunder storm :).

No it is not. 
If you shower with it be sure not to press any buttons or get soap on it as it may get in the watch. 
I swam with my watch in a kiddie pool and it stopped working within 30 minutes. Words mean nothing though, here’s a picture. However, Fitbit replaces it for free. And their customer service is great.
