It does not require WiFi. But the technology is VoIP. You must use the FreedomPop app for making and receiving calls, not your phones native app. But calls do not count toward your data limit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.it basically requires WiFi/Mobile Internet to Use the services

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You get a real phone number, but all talk & text connectivity happens over a data connection (VOIP). You don't have to be on WIFI to use it, but you avoid using up your data allowance if you are connected to WIFI. You do have to have a cellular data connection (i.e. connected to a cell tower supported by Freedompop) for the features to work when you are not connected to WIFI. Your data allowance is charged per text / phone call, and then the system gives you a data credit for talk & text data usage. However, if you reach your data cap, you can no longer place calls or send text messages.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Freedompop plans are data-only GSM SIM plans despite claims of "talk and txt" they are only with their VOIP calling over the internet. You can also use Hangouts with Google Voice but those mins (data) aren't ignored like the Freedompop included "200mins" or whatever they claim are included. It's a good cheap plan if you get used to the data only limitations, and have WiFi around at home because 500MB or 1GB isn't much. Best to use the LTE/4g/HSPA in the car and try to hop on Wifi at every shop you visit.
