Fine if you use Google Voice/Hangouts

I bought this because I am almost exclusively on wifi, so I do not even come close to using 1G a month. I decided that since the price for 1 year of service was cheaper than one month with most companies, it was worth a try.
Things to know:
If you want to keep your old cell phone number it costs extra. So I chose not to keep my old number.
FreedomPop requires you to use their app for making phone calls and texting. The app sucks. Most of the time, it will not even open -- just shows that it is endlessly loading. I did use it once to call a friend. There was an awful sound/noise interference/echoing, plus we were disconnected or I lost the ability to hear her several times.
The solution is to get a free phone number from Google Voice and use Google Voice/Hangouts/and Hangouts Dialer for all calls and texts instead of the phone number and app provided by FreedomPop. It probably uses some small amount of data that way but there have been no technical or quality issues to deal with. (I have 12 days left in this month and still have 936 MB left, so I'm not concerned.) I am glad I did not pay to keep my old number, only to not be able to use it due to the malfunctioning crappy Freedompop app. I think if you want to keep your old number it would be smarter to pay to port it to Google Voice instead.
I had no issues with installing the SIM. My LG G6 is both GSM and CDMA.
Because I did not pay for transferring my phone number, I did not have to provide my credit card number so I don't anticipate any way to be billed for charges I did not authorize or for more data that I don't want like some people have complained about.

While I haven't activated this sim yet, I have a couple of other Freedompop lines. The LTE sims use AT&T, and the coverage in my area is very good, though AT&T doesn't have LTE in my area like Verizon and T-Mobile do. The calls and texts have to go thru the Freedompop app vs. the normal apps on your phone. I find on the sim I have in an iPhone its easy to use and is ok, but for Android, the interface is clunky and hard to use. Freedompop used to let you earn another 500mb of free data but recently lowered that to 50mb, not even noticible. While you get "unlimited" calls and texts, including voicemail and MMS/picture messages (the free Freedompop plans dont include these), Freedompop will nickle and dime you for every other thing, including support. If you don't pay them for premium support, I hope you don't have a problem as your choice is their community forums only.

This service uses AT&T for its data service, and VoIP app for calls and texts. The latter may turn off people because it doesn’t use the standard diaper on their phone. Speeds and reliability of the data service is as you should expect with AT&T service. The calling and texting will vary, especially when switching between WiFi and cellular data. ALso the app will use the data, so factor that in your data usage.
Make sure you use at least 25-50Mb per month so that they don’t suspend the service. There is also no rollover without using a payment method (see note below about avoiding adding payments).
One thing I *strongly* suggest is to avoid adding a payment method for “Top ups.” FP has a tendency to nickel and dime customers once they go past their limit on their free plans, and thankfully a payment method isn’t required on annual plans to try to same tricks later.
For a data-only service, it is the cheapest you can find without doing eBay or some online-only special.

For anyone that can deal with having to use the FreedomPop app on Android/iOS, or is only looking for something with 1GB of data per month to have as a backup or something, you really can't beat this.
Activation is pretty simple - create an account, sign in, and copy some of the ID numbers from the back of the packaging. As long as your device is compatible, it is pretty easy to get it activated and running.
I knocked 1 star off because it took over an hour to activate and kept throwing up a no signal error on a gen 1 iPhone SE, despite everything showing it was activated.

Pro:Good price, 12 months with this price is hot!
Con:its voip, not normal cellphone line. Eventually, Phone call and text are through an app. Hardest company to contact to customer service. If you want faster, extra charge on monthly bill. Getting response via email takes 48hours. Horrible port in process, I spent 2 weeks to make correction on port in.

I got the 3 in 1, LTE SIM card combo. everything works great. Unlimited call/text and 1GB/monthly data. The only thing i didn't like was picking my Number, my city area code (San Antonio/210) was not available so i had to pick the next closest (Austin/512).

I purchased the Freedom pop prepaid card through bestbuy.com, received it on time and have been using it for about a month. It serves the purpose well for under 5$ per month. The only catch is, freedom pop is VOIP based which means you need to install an app and use it to make/receive calls or messages. The only reason I didnt give 5 star is, the plan includes 1 GB data per month and unlimited calling/texting but what I noticed is, data is consumed when on call/text which makes me wonder if I hit 1 GB data on any given month, will I have the ability to continue making calls/text which is supposed to be unlimited.

I use my Google Hangouts number on my phone, so I am not reliant on the FreedomPop systems--they just provide cheap access to the AT&T mobile data network for me. Also, if you are a light user of data (mostly texting, voice, and email, and if you are usually connected to wifi for heavy download usage), this is an amazing deal. Otherwise, FreedomPop will get you with charges for everything from voice mail to going near (not over) your monthly data allotment. The customer service is terrible, so don't expect to call customer service and get help--there are Internet forums that have limited usefulness, but again, you'll need to be at least somewhat tech savvy to rely on Internet forums as a main support system. So: Use Google Hangouts for free texting, voice mail and calling over the access provided by this great deal (and don't use too much data!), and you will be very happy.

Note that this plan is good for you only if:
1. You use WiFi mostly and need LTE minimally (for apps, web, games etc). The monthly limit is 1GB LTE data, which is enough if you use it only for making VoIP calls.
2. You install their app for phone calls and texts.
If the above don't apply to you, don't bother with this plan.
This plan uses the AT&T network, and if you are in an area with good AT&T signal you are good to go.

Setting it up is easy. Good web speed too. Registration page should explain reason of providing credit card info since this is a prepaid card for a whole year usage.

This plan is OK for basic service. Just keep in mind that even voice calls count against the 1 GB per month data limit because they are all voice over IP calls. A credit card is also required for this prepaid Sim kit so there is a chance you’ll be charged extra if you go over your data limit per month. Overall though, it’s still good service for the price.

I was skeptical that FreedomPop’s 12 month 1GB data plan was going to work. It surprised me that I was able to buy the 12 month plan online at Best Buy and easily activate the sim for my iPad without needing a credit card. It uses fast ATT LTE network. I can easily track my data usage in the app. Much more affordable option for data run adding to my post pay cell phone plan.

Service is just what I needed on my tablet. FreedomPop app allowd for dialing on the tablet and works ok, not perfect, but ok. Data access with AT&T is as expected. I will probably use the data on the tablet rather than the voip with their app. Since purchasing, I've learned they are actually transitioning to actual cellular voice so FreedomPop should be better going forward.

I'm frequently traveling to the US. To be reachable I was searching for an option with some traffic included and to make short distance calls. The app works great when not connected to a WiFi but I also faced issues once I went back to my original SIM and had to uninstall the app. To install and uninstall the app is a price I can pay for a convinient connectivity package. However, I'd appreciate not having to do that

This arrived on time and was very easy to install into my unlocked smartphone. Now I have cellular service for a whole year with unlimited talk, text and 1 GB of data all for $39. I was able to pick a number from a list of available phone numbers. You can add visual voicemail at an additional cost per month if needed.

Activating service and getting everything up and running on my phone went smooth and service/signal has been great so far. Just set up an account with FreedomPop, insert the SIM card and you are good to go. At less than$5 per month for a year of service this is definitely enough for my son and gives me piece of mind that he can reach me when he stays at school for activities.

I got the FreedomPop free service previously for an old work phone. It worked great for what I needed it for. I didn't know about this 12 month prepaid plan otherwise I would have tried it out.
So when it came time for me to pick up a cell phone + plan for my dad, I jumped on this. I've paired up this plan with a Moto G5S Plus. An affordable unlocked phone with 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. The phone itself is quite responsive, and I figure will keep him running for a while as apps demand more resources.
FreedomPop is served by AT&T in my area and it's been great. I went into the settings to make sure to notify my dad when he approaches 900 MB and turn off data as it gets closer to 1 GB. It's enough to get his emails and run some apps. He's not going to be streaming any content and if he is, he can do it over wifi when he's home.
I was however, slightly frustrated with the setup process. The setup is all done online, which isn't a problem. The problem was finding an available phone number to choose from. I searched all the area codes near me and across the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. None were available at the time, so I ended up with a phone number in Nevada. I'm sure I can change it later, but it was a frustrating part of the experience. I believe over time that FreedomPop purchases blocks of phone numbers as they become available, but at the time I couldn't find one easily.
If this is still around when my kids need phones, I'll likely turn to this plan.

Excellent price and service. The only prblm is that voice is actually VoIP not cellular: need an internet connection and the use of their app, which eats your 1GB quota, and have a 2-3 seconds delay before your phone rings for incoming calls.

It is a very good phone card for beginners. And just only less than 5 dollars a month compares with other phone cards. I like it because while l am working l don't have time to go on line, so I don't want to use others that is 30 dollars a month .
