No, you don't need a credit card to activate the prepaid plan. I have 5 plans without having registered a credit card on most of them. That said: 1. They will offer promotions (such as a one time bonus of 500MB of free data) to encourage you to register a valid credit card on your account via their web site. 2. Once you've registered a valid credit card, the web site does not allow you to remove it or replace it with another card, unless the other card is also valid. 3. Once FPop has your credit card information, you are at risk of them using it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The reason Freedompop requires your credit card to be on file, is in case you go over the 1 GB on Data during a given month. Then they charge your card. If your card expires or is removed from your account, they will first suspend your service. After that, they will text you that your service has been suspended. Once you update your credit card information, they will put a temporary charge of $20. On your card, but will remove that charge later. I’ve been with Freedompop since 2012. Yes, they are not easy to deal with. But, overall you can’t beat the price of $35.99 for the SIM card with 12 months of service. I got my SIM card at BestBuy on sale. I might add that you will need an iPhone that connects to AT&T service to use this Freedompop service. Hope this helps. Curt
