Q: QuestionCan an Ice Maker be installed? Can you turn off the defroster?

• A:Answer No and no are the short and sweet answers. At least on the model I have in this class of upright Frigidaire, there's no ice maker option to install. As for the defrosting circuit, I'm not sure what triggers it, but there's virtually NO energy savings to turning it off. Why? Because once there is a frost buildup on the cooling shelves and tubing, that frost INSULATES the most important part of your freezer, and your energy efficiency plummets! You would be FAR FAR FAR better advised to not open the door very often, which is what admits moisture laden air in the first place! What I do is keep a reminder map and list of what is INSIDE the freezer and WHERE it is so I can open the door and grab what I need and close the door well within a few seconds.

• A:Answer Hi Vic. You should be just fine. Temperatures of 32°F (0°C) and below will NOT affect operation of the freezer. Additional compressor heaters are not recommended.
