“If using in a garage w no ice maker, does it need to be hooked up to water to work? I need this for extra perishable storage w extended use by dates from big box stores. If I don't need an ice maker in it, I need to be sure it doesn't need a water hookup for normal function of refrigerator/freezer as water is not easily available in garage.”

Hello LJC! The refrigerator (FFTR1821QS) does not need to have a water line connection in order to cool. If you want to use the icemaker you would need to install a water line. We hope this information is helpful. –Thanks!-
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No water is required to operation if no ice maker will be used. Just make sure if it does have an ice maker in it... the metal bar is in the UP / OFF position. This will stop the ice maker from requesting water from a line that is not hooked up.
