Very easy, even in my home where the unit sits with the wall right next to our freezer. Open the freezer door as far as it will go, then if needed you can remove the top door shelf of the freezer (not hard). At this point you simply slide the ice tray out. It hold a lot of ice, so it has some a little heft to it but it's manageable.
