You will want to move the window kit with it. The unit pumps out hot air from the back exhaust. You could use it without the window kit I'm guessing it just wouldnt be very effective. Portable in the fact it doesnt have to sit on a window sill but with the short exhaust hose it still has to be close to a window to be effective. I've seen others put in a office or warehouse without the window kit so it can be done
