Generally though, you can find higher efficiency standard window ac’s that will fit unless you want a taller ac like this for a reason, such as providing privacy- these casement acs are Generally for sliding windows.

No. The window must be able to close up against the side of the unit. It is meant for windows that open by sliding left or right. There is a panel to cover the gap from the top of the unit to the top of the window (40 inch maximum window height).
