Any metal surface can be scratched. I will say that we haven't scratched it yet, and it really does live up to its "fingerprint-resistant stainless steel look." Any fingerprints or smudges occurring during normal use are easily wiped away (unlike a similar Samsung unit we owned before this one--that one was nearly impossible to keep smudge-free).

Side‑by‑Side Counter‑Depth Refrigerator with Fresh Storage Crispers Drawer – Fingerprint‑Resistant Stainless Steel Look. The finish is not plain stainless steel; it uses a fingerprint-resistant (smudge-resistant) coating that’s designed to resist fingerprints and make cleaning easier. - Frigidaire’s “fingerprint-resistant” or “smudge-resistant” stainless steel has a special protective coating on the surface. This makes oils and fingerprints less visible and easier to wipe off compared with ordinary stainless steel. - It does not mean the surface is scratch-proof. The coating helps with smudges, but like most coated finishes, it can still get scratched by metal objects, magnets, abrasive cleaning pads, or aggressive scrubbing. Once scratched, there’s typically no way to restore that coating; scratches may remain visible. Plain stainless steel: a very durable metal surface that can still scratch, but scratches tend to blend into the finish and may sometimes be reduced with polishing. Fingerprint-resistant coated finish: easier to keep clean from fingerprints and smudges, but the thin coating itself can show scratches more easily if the surface is abraded. - Maico
