I'm sure the official Amp rating is higher because a circuit needs to provide more Amps than an appliance draws to follow electrical codes. I purchased a 12,000 BTU unit and measured the draw using a Kill-A-Watt meter. When the compressor kicks on, the Amps peak at just under 12 Amps. When the unit is running with the fan on high and the compressor on, it stays between 6.5-7.5 Amps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I haven't clamped the leads to see what the real world draw is but I have this unit on a 15 amp circuit with other items with zero issues, so I think 9 amps sounds plausible
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.8.7 is correct
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The unit has 8.7 amps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When something has an electric motor that big to move a compressor, don't even think that 8 amps cam move it.
