Yes, it is true that this product under no circumstances can operate with an extension cord per electrical safety requirements. This product must be plugged directly into the appropriate receptacle.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wouldn’t use a extension cord as the manufacturer noted due to a fire hazard.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can only use an air conditioner extension cord. They usually come in 6 or 9 feet lengths.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We are using an extension cord and it is working fine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifier consumes 6.7 Amps/745 Watts during normal operation. The circuits in most homes supply 15-Amps/1600 Watts. It's generally safe to use a short (9-foot or less) heavy-duty 16-Gauge, 13-Amp (or 14-Gauge, 15-Amp) 3-prong plug, single-outlet extension cord for appliances like the Frigidaire dehumidifier. Go to a hardware store and ask for an appliance/air conditioner extension cord that meets this criteria and you'll be fine. Note: to avoid circuit overloads, make sure you don't have another large appliance like a washing machine, refrigerator, or window air conditioner on the same circuit as the dehumidifier. The dehumidifier consumes about 7 Amps, so that leaves 8 Amps for everything else on that circuit. If you're not sure the basement is on its own dedicated circuit, go to the electrical panel and turn off the basement power. Then check the rest of the house and the garage to see if all of the other lights and electrical outlets are working.
