Great question, MG! The surrounding temperature should be with in the range of 41 °Fahrenheit to 96 °Fahrenheit . If the room temperature is below 41 °Fahrenheit (5 °Celsius) the dehumidifier will not operate satisfactorily. We hope this information answers your question and was helpful to you. -Ciara
