is a widow vent needed for the unit? null

A vent in general is needed for ALL portable AC units. Where else is the hot air its trying to remove going to go? That said, this unit comes with a window attachment that adjusts for most sliding windows. If you have crank style windows that swing out or plan to use it in a sliding door, you'll have to buy or make a kit yourself.

Yes, the vent hose and a section of window port are provided. If you have a large window opening as I did you have to improvise the closure for the additional space.
