“The plastic grill to cover the vent... What am I doing wrong? I removed the flap to allow it to fit over the tip guard bolt thingie, and it's snapped into place on the opposite side, but it won't snap in over the tip guard. Why? What am I missing here?”

I can try to answer this one because I had the same problem. I started by snapping in the center male and female parts. Then depending on how your door is mounted, right or left handed, you have to remove the top triangular flat piece on the right or the left. I just slides out. Then should stay in place. I agree, it still does not fit perfectly after that, but it stays in place. Good luck!
