Trucker Bob- The American version of the Dash Cam 35 does not allow audio recording (but the European version does). But you don't want conversations and cell call communications recorded as part of your video. Liability issues is on you. What if you are on your cell phone, being recorded on a dash cam, and you are in an accident. In the state or local municipality you are in, it may be illegal to be talking on a phone while driving. And even it is not, how do you think a plaintiff's attorneys will feel when he finds out you have a video and audio of your accident, in which you are on the phone. The firm mount is to the unit will be be dislodged in the event of a collision. If you need portability, for $199, just purchase another unit.

I did use a cell phone suction cup holder "jury rigged" to hold the camera to test it out before using the permanent Garmin mount. That work; however, it introduced slight vibration to the video. The supplied mount holds the camera rock steady.
