The camera feels solid and does work allot better than the no name camera it is replacing in my car. The GPS speed lags but seems accurate and the video quality leaves a little to be desired. The legibility of license plates is hit and miss. The camera does a series of beeps if you come too close to the car in front of you, this is a nice feature that I did not expect and it works well.

I did lots of research before I purchased this. Ideal for people who do lots of driving.
This cam does not fail even when it's hot, however what I do is to put AC towards the unit so it does not overheat. You can see every detail well on the video recording.

Large screen for a dash camera but small size. It is mounted beside my rear view mirror but works very well there. Suggestion-buy a larger micro SD card than the 4 GB that came with it. Also have it professionally installed so all the wires are hidden.

Things people rag about are it not having audio recording, stick-on windshield fastener, and too short of a cable. Audio was not important to me. Stick-on bothered me at first but no longer; it actually gives it a much better low profile. A third party cable can overcome the short cable. It took a while for the negatives to disappear but you'll end up loving it.

The pictures are good, but not great. Ease of use is very good, but wish it could do settings on battery power alone. My battery doesn't seem to get charged, no matter how long the device is on and operating. The only other problem is that the sticky mount presents a problem for those of us who want to move our device from one car to another.

This dash cam provides nearly all the features one would look for in a device designed for driver safety. The display can be set to dim or stay live. On the display bottom, and display recording, are the date and time, gps location and vehicle speed. Essential if being used in defense of your driving. The dash cam also provides collision avoidance that can be adjusted to your liking and a red light camera notification.
The greatest feature I found was the recording. When I press the video record button, the dash cam records the previous 1 1/2 minutes and continues to record for an additional 1 1/2 minutes. This does create a rather large mp4 file around 180MB but can be easily edited. There is also a snapshot button that allows pics to be taken for additional accident information.
A suction cup holder would be nice if it were included but the unit does come with an adhesive mount. Also the SD card is only 4GB which can record two events without overwriting.
I drive semi over the road, which can be rough, but the image quality is excellent. I can take the SD card and insert in my tablet and view the video with no additional software. I can pause the video and pinch zoom to read license plates. Can't ask for anything more!

Garmen Dash recorder is really a good product

We had a dash recorder before, but it did not last long, so we researched other recorders before we bought another one. The Garmen Dash Recorder 35 GPS is really great. It not only records, but it lets you know if you are to close to other traffic. And it is a GPS as well. The video is very clear, and we are having great results with it. It gives you a complete record of where you have been in your vehicle, and great record if you have an accident. .It is also small enough to fit on your front window without causing obstruction to your driving, and it is like having a second pair of eyes on your driving, and that of others around you, to insure your safety and theirs.

I have found the Garmin Dash Cam 35 to be well worth it's relatively low price. The videos are very clear and the wide angle provides a great record for the driver. It does not have audio, but I don't miss that as the primary function is the video. In fact other dash cams I have had with audio I did not like having audio since it recorded private conversations from within the vehicle. The suction cup attachments have worked really well. I did clean the window with an alcohol pad and dried it before attaching the suction cups. Note it is always best to put a little drop of water on the suction cups and this makes the cups attach better based on my experience. The device has a large screen which is a plus. Also this device has a forward collision avoidance alarm - this will come on if you are approaching a vehicle too quickly - it has 3 sensitivity settings. The unit has handled being in the sun without any problem. It is nice to have a unit that will record the time and GPS coordinates. Also it does protect any recordings that are made when it senses an accident has occurred. You can also vary the sensitivity so that just going over bumps in your car will not trigger this feature. Great product.

Bought this to replace a cheaper dash cam. Takes quality video, easy to use. Not real crazy about how it mounts to the windshield. Make sure you attach it to the windshield mount and find the exact location you want it before installing the windshield mount. Once it's on there it's very difficult to remove.

There is nothing great and nothing terrible about this model. You do have to keep it plugged in all the time, and unfortunately the screen always stays on when recording, which is a big distraction at night. Video quality was good, but the deal breaker for me was no microphone. Silent videos only go so far, and in many cases having audio recording would add to the detail of a situation. I am still using an old go-pro hero as my dash cam, but it only lasts an hour and likes to turn off when it gets too hot. I may try the newer line of garmin dash cams eventually as it looks like they fixed all the major flaws of this older model. The garmin 45 for example has audio recording and the screen turns off completely after a short time. It is also more compact and easier to mount or hide from view.

Purchased this unit with intention to capture unexpected accidents on road. The pictures quality is supreme, clear on both day time and night time. Very easy to set up and operate with only a click of a button. One thing I'm not so pleased is the battery's life is somewhat short with only an hour or so when the unit is on and unplugged but this might just be completely normal considering it's recording video in HD 1080 format. Highly recommended.

I bought this and the padded friction mount for my car, as I didn't want to mount this direct to the windshield and have the cord run down to the 12v acc point, also so i can bring the unit in our other vehicle if needed.
I also grabbed a class 10 16gb micro sd for it since it came with a 4gb card.
The Garmin website has a video compiler\editor that was also pretty useful it puts all the video together and shows the vehicle location on a google map during playback. Playback on my laptop is able to see oncoming car license plates about 75% of the time when you freeze it.
The warning for getting to close to the car in front of you is kind of sensitive, I am going to see if I can set it to be less. I park in my garage so I haven't had any high heat issues.
It doesn't record sound, which I didn't want anyway so not a problem for me.
I would have gave it 5 stars if they didn't cheap out with the included 4gb card.
Overall I am happy with this purchase.

Great Dash Camera - Easy to use

This camera was super easy to use right out of the box. I went with Garmin because I was familiar with the brand name. The compact size of the camera and the LCD display make it very nice looking and functional. After my first drive with it I decided to disable the forward collision warning because it seemed a little sensitive and I didnt want to mess with the settings. It does a great job with " incident detection" if I hit a large bump or decelerate quickly it automatically saves that video.
There have already been 2 software updated to it since I got it which I l like and means its not a piece of " forgotten hardware" by Garmin. When viewing footage on the computer its shows you your location on a map, speed etc which is helpful.
Overall I would recommend this camera for anyone wanting to document daily driving or get a cool new device!

Simple review of a nice Dash Cam

I bought this dash cam for my wife because we got tired of switching mine from vehicle to vehicle. The camera is very easy to set up and use. Once you get the settings where you want them, you can just forget about it. I've hardwired both mine and my wife's to a switched circuit with an Add-a-circuit Fuse TAP Adapter and a power cable bought separately. I didn't like the 12v power cable that plugs into the vehicle 12v power outlet. The camera records excellent video, you can have the GPS location and vehicle speed overlaid on the video if you want. It doesn't record audio, but do you really want it to if you ever have to use a video in court, plus audio takes up a lot of space on the memory card. You can save video clips if you want, by pressing the bottom button on the camera it saves the last 60 seconds of video.
I'm not crazy about the windshield mount, it's the only thing about the camera I dont like. having said that, suction cup mounts have a tendency to fall off the windshield , probably why Garmin went with a stick on mount. Hence my 5 star rating in spite of the fact that I dont like the mount. You have to be 100% certain of you choice of placement. All said, I would buy this camera again because it's a Garmin. I've always had good luck with Garmin products.

In the "close the barn door after the horse got out", I was involved in an accident on the Interstate where another driver suddenly moved into my lane forcing me to swerve onto the shoulder where my car scraped a post. While I had the vehicle's license number, their insurance company refused to take responsibility as there was no evidence their insured was at fault. That's why I bought my Garmin Dashcam. This is a full featured camera that records video in a loop with location, date/time, and speed. The only issue is the software used to play back the video. It takes a very long time to download the video for play back.

The Garmin 35 DashCam is a good product. Very simple to use. It continuously captures 1 minute video segments. In the event of a crash, it sensos the impact, and automatically saves the 1 minute before the crash, the crash itself and the 1 minute after the crash as a single 3 minute clip. You can also manually save any 3 minute segment (1 min. before, current, and 1 minute after) by pressing a button on the side. You can also take still photos by pressing a button as well. You can review the saved videos right on the screen, or you can remove the micro SD card and view them from your computer and then save them to another location if needed. My only complaint is that it does not record sound as well. I think that would be a good feature to have. It comes with a 4GB card, and this is enough to store an hour or two of video.....but I would recommend getting a larger card (up to 64GB) so that it can keep a larger number of videos. Even if you didn't save a video at the time, you can scroll through the recorded videos that haven;t been saved yet and then copy a video off of the card to your computer. So the larger card gives you more recorded video space.

This dash cam works as advertised. But there are a few things to keep in mind before buying this camera. The memory card that comes with the dash cam is way to small, need to upgrade to 64 gigs right away. The mounting options are limited to the windshield with the enclosed mount. However Garmin has a wide range of mounts that work with their dash cams. I bought a suction mount that works for my motorcycle. Continuous recording as advertised is not exactly true, the dash cam records in segments of about 2 minutes each so in playback you see the video stop and start for each segment. The crash warning and speed camera function works great. Great video, very clear and wide angle lens covers the entire scene in front of the car.
