It uses a small piece of steel that is double sided taped to the windshield. The Garmin mount has a strong magnet on the base that holds it to the steel. Easier to remove the dash cam with the magnet setup then the old suction cup type. Just be sure to clean the spot on your window where the steel will attach. Mine has never fallen off yet. Makes it easy to remove if you dont want to leave it on the window all the time. Works great. Comes with extra mount if windshield needs replacing. If the windshield does ever need to be replaced save the silver mount, it can be cleaned and set with 3m double sided automotive adhesive. I use the garmin 47 in my rig and personal vehicle.
