I went with the garmin hrm-pro which works fantastically. For running and swimming, even under a wetsuit. It also tracks your stride and how even you run on each foot. The hrm-tri is also good I’ve heard, though I’ve never used it. I know that the garmin can sync to other brands of monitors depending on the connection technology.
