• You need Garmin express and plug in the usb cable from Garmin to computer. Select update from the menu, then wait until it is loaded.

• I would think your receipt should show the lifetime maps was part of the package. Did you register your unit with the manufacturer? I believe that was part of registering the unit. Also, check with the store you bought it from.
