“Can this be used right out of the box? My husband and I need some kind of navigation and we're sick of printing out mapquest directions all the time. We are low tech and currently have "dumb phones", but considering upgrading to bluetooth capabilities for the new car we're getting. Can this product be used right out of the box, or do you need to plug it into the car to work? Does it have it's own power supply? what type: disposable batteries, car interface via usb connection? Does it need to connect to the internet?”

It CAN be used right out of the box, as when I opened it the battery was about 1/4 charged. They do however recommend that you install the latest USA map and device updates which took me roughly 90 minutes through my pc's usb port using the enclosed cable. You would want to charge it before using it extensively, by using the included charging cable that plugs into the 12 volt cigarette lighter charging ports in your vehicle. There are no replaceable/disposable batteries in it that I can tell.
