No, does not require GPS to capture. Would work well to capture construction from an interior as long as the room isn't overly large (you wouldn't see too much detail if it was a huge space)

If it gets a signal, the location will be attached to the tag information in the picture files...if there is not signal because you are inside a building or in a cave, the camera will still work. You will still get a picture, but the location information will not be in the file.
