Yes, like most Garmin products, it automatically creates 'laps' at each mile, which will give you some good insight into, say, mile 16 when you had the hill-climb (elevation, HR, pace, and if you use one of the newer chest-strap HR monitors or foot pods, you can get a lot of pace and other info, too!).

The device has an option to manually lap at every mile to record splits, or you are able to use the manual lap button at each mile. The device can store multiple activities in the device at a time.
