• No, it can't. The vivoactive HR has a 5 ATM water-resistance rating and a pool swim (no GPS) mode, however it does not have an open-water swim (GPS) mode. If you are looking for a device that does have the open-water swim mode, I would recommend looking at the Forerunner 735XT or the Fenix 3. Thanks! -OA

• I don't see why not since it is waterproof. It may record your distance in laps though. But it does that for running as well.
