If the device is able to acquire a GPS signal while inside the bus then it would be able to track the speed and distance traveled while riding on a bus. The challenge is maintaining a GPS signal while inside. Setting next to a window would give the device the best chance of maintaining a GPS signal.

On a bus you aren’t swinging your arms so it doesn’t register movement. However I have noticed in a Jeep driving through the jungle on a windy dirt ride it registered steps if it got really bumpy.
